PERC Research Internship Opportunity

Announcement: PERC Research Internship Opportunity

Update: This position has been filled. Additional updates and positions will be posted here on the PERC Internship opportunity page.
PERC is seeking one Higher Education Doctoral Student or CSP student in need of research experience or Practicum hours to begin immediately. Students will work with PERC’s research team to complete the Student Engagement Practice and Planning in the COVID-19 Environment Project.

The purpose of this project is to understand and to inform student engagement planning and practices in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, we aim to identify trends in student engagement planning to illuminate successful and innovative practices of student engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will research several critical areas of student engagement from a functional area and linear perspective. This focus will allow us to produce insights focusing on important events in the planning timeline of the pandemic and to collate different institutional practices from each area. These focus areas may include orientation and the first-year experience, student government, student activities and clubs, fraternities and sororities, community service programs, residence life operations and programming, multicultural engagement, student health and wellness, and student employment. This study will examine these functional areas through a lens utilizing three models of engagement:

  • Traditional-Review innovation in traditional, face-to-face practices.
  • Hybrid-Changes to engage students in a combination of face-to-face and online modes
  • Online-Strategies for fully online engagement

Students will work with the research team to assist with Phase I of the project, which includes: phases of the project:

  1. Conducting benchmarking research on the study sample group
  2. Analyzing data collected through benchmarking
  3. Drafting research briefs that synthesize and summarize findings

This project will require students to utilize and advance their data collection, data analysis, and writing skills. Project outcomes will include the completion of several publications to be featured in PERC’s New Research Series

Additionally, students will be required to attend one standing weekly team meeting. Other meetings may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis. Students will be placed on a research team in which they will collaborate with other students, and the position will be conducted remotely.
