Assistant Provost and Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
Denise Gardner has thirty years of experience in Institutional Research and Assessment. She came to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2012. Prior to that, she was at the University of Georgia (where she also held an appointment as a Fellow with the Institute of Higher Education), Georgia Institute of Technology, and North Carolina State University. Her doctorate is in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University.
Denise has served in various leadership and volunteer roles in national, regional, and state-wide institutional research organizations. She is a past president of the Southern Association for Institutional Research (SAIR), and received their 2017 Distinguished Member award for her contributions to the field. Her research interests center around student success and retention.
